thanksgivingAs the seasons change and colds and flu are a frequent occurrence, I wanted to request that you please call the preschool or daycare if your child is staying home sick or if they have an appointment and have to miss preschool. It helps us to be informed. Thank you! Please also remember to take your child to the restroom before class if you are dropping them off at 9:00. It helps us to get our school day started if everyone is ready when they come.

Extra copies of the Scholastic Books holiday flyer are available on the table by the preschool door. Don’t miss an opportunity to get some Christmas shopping done in advance!

Tuesday and Wednesday we will celebrate Thanksgiving by playing games, making pilgrim hats and, of course, eating! Just as a reminder, for the Thanksgiving Feast on November 21, we are requesting the Iverson, Marsh, and Morse families to bring a snack and for the Newman and Quigley families to provide a drink. On November 22, we are asking the Taylor family to bring a snack and the Woodard family to bring a drink. I will be providing cupcakes and a few other treats as well. Thank you everyone for your help!

The preschool and daycare will be closed on Thursday and Friday this week. On Monday, the preschool will be closed, but the daycare will be open. Preschool will resume on Tuesday, November 28. Have a great holiday!

Thank you for helping raise funds for new playground equipment by selling the Sarris candy. It was successful! Please consider ordering books this month from Scholastic Books using our preschool’s code, and don’t forget to browse the Christmas flyer also to buy presents for friends and family.

cornucopia-clip-artThe kids have enjoyed playing supermarket and restaurant with a tent in our classroom, and we will keep it up for them to play with for this coming week. This week we will read stories and talk about delicious fruit and vegetables. We will be reviewing letters A-E and their sounds and the numbers 1-5. Our new color and shape are green and a star. We will be reading about David and Goliath and about how David became king of Israel in Bible time. We have started to learn some Christmas hymns as well to prepare for a Christmas play in December.

The families providing a snack this week are Bruzzese (Wednesday, 11/15) and Quigley (Thursday, 11/16). Our Halloween party snack schedule went well so for the Thanksgiving Feast on Tuesday, November 21, we are requesting the Iverson, Marsh, and Morse families to bring a snack and for the Newman and Quigley families to provide a drink. The 4 year old class will celebrate Thanksgiving on Wednesday, November 22, and we are asking the Taylor family to bring a snack and the Woodard family to bring a drink. I will be providing cupcakes and a few other treats as well. Thank you everyone for your help!

We had a great time at the pumpkin patch and at our Halloween parties. I hope your family has been able to enjoy some fall festivities this season.

As the weather is getting colder, I wanted to remind you of our school closure policies due to inclement weather stated in the handbook. If our school district, Cornell, has a snow day, we are also canceling preschool for that day. You can check with the local news station or news website to see if we are listed. If Cornell calls for a 2 hour delay due to snow, we will cancel preschool for the day, but if the 2 hour delay is due to wind, we will not cancel preschool since our school children are not bussed. You can call us if you have any questions.

Handas-SurpriseThis week we continue to talk about food and where it comes from – how food is harvested and sent to stores for us to purchase. We will be reading Handa’s Surprise about a young African girl who balances a basket on her head all the way home from the market. Our letter focus this week is E, and our number focus is 5. We will be learning to recognize the color pink and heart shapes. In Bible time, we will read about how Samuel was called by God when he was a boy.

The families providing a snack this week are Woodard (Wednesday, 11/8) and Newman (Thursday, 11/9). Thank you for your help!

kids with foodOur Halloween parties are on Monday, October 30 for the 4-year olds and Tuesday, October 31 for the 3-year olds. Your child can bring a costume that day, and we will have lots of games, prizes, and food! I will be providing cupcakes for both classes. Just a reminder – the families providing snacks for the parties are: Bruzzese on Monday-10/30 and Ambriz, Carrabia, and Farley on Tuesday-10/31. The Melius family can bring a drink for Monday and the Farren family can bring a drink for Tuesday’s party. Get ready for dressing up and having fun!

New flyers for November will be sent home this week for our Scholastic Books fundraiser. We will also be sending home a special Christmas flyer soon. There are lots of books for a variety of age groups. You can start Christmas shopping for older siblings, friends, and neighbors! Scholastic Books are reasonably priced, and every dollar spent earns our classroom points to get new books for next year.

After our Halloween parties, we will be learning as usual. Our November theme is food. This week we will talk about our bodies and how we need food. There are also some fun Safari animal activities and crafts that we will be making this month. We are learning the letter D and recognizing the number 4. We will still be reviewing six shapes and colors this week. In Bible time we will learn about two faithful women of the Bible, Ruth and Hannah.

Since we are having Halloween parties, there are no families scheduled to bring a snack this week.

Officer Buckle and Gloria        The Scholastic Books orders for September have either arrived or are in route. New flyers for October were sent out last week. You can order online or send into school the order form on the back page with a check for the amount. The due date for October orders will be October 26. We will then send the orders on to Scholastic and the books will be shipped to the school in early November and distributed to the families. Thanks for helping the school earn points so we can receive books at the end of the year!

This week we are talking about police officers and law enforcement and doing some fun activities that will teach safety. We will also be reading The Tale of Peter Rabbit and Benjamin Bunny and other great stories. We will be learning to recognize and count to 6, and the shape we will be learning is oval. The sixth color we will focus on this week is purple, and we are learning the letter “C” and its sound. In Bible Time, we are talking about how Joshua and the Israelites conquered the city of Jericho.

Reminder: Our Halloween parties will be on October 30 for the 4-year olds and October 31 for the 3-year olds. Your child can bring a costume that day, and we will have lots of games, prizes, and food! I will be providing cupcakes for both classes. We are asking for just some of the families to provide snacks or party treats (Bruzzese on Monday-10/30 and Ambriz, Carrabia, and Farley on Tuesday-10/31). Fall Owls

We have a busy and fun few weeks ahead of us! Teddy Bear Portraits are this Friday. The picture-taking will begin at 7:30, and parents can come to view and purchase pictures from 11:45 a.m.-12:00 p.m. and from 3:00p.m.-5:00 p.m. We can’t wait to see some gorgeous smiles!

The forms for having your child tested for Laughlin Children’s Center are due back by Wednesday, October 11. Please send your form and money in if you would like to have this service. Also, our field trip to Soergel Orchards is fast approaching! There is a sign-up sheet on the little table by the preschool door so we can get an accurate count of our group. Remember you will be responsible for transporting your child, and the price is $7 per child plus $2 per adult which includes a hayride and a pumpkin for each child. We hope to see all of our preschool families there.

We continue our new theme on community helpers by talking about doctors, nurses, and emergency responders. We are also making adorable bear faces and forest landscapes. We will be learning to recognize and count to 5, and our shape and color focus is diamond and brown. We are also learning the letter “B” and its sound. In Bible Time, we will read about the end of Moses’ life and how he helped lead God’s people to the Promised Land.

Our Halloween parties will be on October 30 for the 4-year olds and October 31 for the 3-year olds. Your child can bring a costume that day, and we will have lots of games, prizes, and food! More information will be coming soon about how you can contribute to our party. The families providing a snack this week are: Bruzzese on Wednesday (10/11) and Iverson on Thursday (10/12). Thank you!
