dinosaurs and eggsWe had a great time at Living Treasures on Friday! If you were not able to go, I would recommend it for a fun family outing this summer. There were many animals and to be able to feed and pet many of them was a great hands-on experience.

We have only three weeks of preschool left! For the month of May, we will focus on learning about dinosaurs and our animal theme is jungle animals like monkeys, tigers, snakes, and tropical birds (like many of the animals we saw last Friday!). We are also reviewing numbers, recognizing #1-20 and counting, and our letter focus is X. The preschoolers will also learn about measuring, sorting, and organizing objects – they will be experts at cleaning their rooms! Our Bible lessons on the Armor of God continue with the breastplate of righteousness and shoes that are put on in “readiness given by the gospel of peace”.

Preschool graduation and program is in the church sanctuary at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, May 18. There will be singing and a presentation of diplomas and certificates. The art show and “jungle party” will be held afterwards in the social hall. A sign-up sheet will be available next week for those who would like to contribute a snack for the party. This week, the family asked to provide a snack is Quigley on Thursday (5/3). This is our last week to request snacks so here is a special thank you to all the parents who contributed snacks this year!

zooLast week we had a good time learning about how we can help the earth. Your little one should know all about how to recycle! Just 4 weeks left in our school year! We are learning more about nature, how tadpoles become frogs, and about creepy crawlys like spiders. We are focusing on 2 letters this week (V and W), and the preschoolers continue to count and measure things. The next few weeks in Bible time our focus will be on the armor of God that we learn about in Ephesians 6. We will begin by talking about and doing activities related to the belt of truth.

Living Treasures is this Friday! I am excited about going to the wild animal park for the first time, and I hope you and your little ones are excited, too. Let’s meet at the front entrance no later than 10:15. The address is 268 Fox Road, New Castle, PA 16101. From Coraopolis it takes about 45 minutes to get there. Please note that no outside food to feed the animals may be brought in. We will be provided feed for the animals as part of the fee. Our educational tour begins at 11:00, and we do have a shelter reserved for lunchtime at 12:00. After lunch you can continue to explore the park and leave when you and your preschooler are ready. The park closes at 6:00 in the month of April.

Preschool graduation and program is in the church sanctuary at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, May 18. We will have singing and a presentation of diplomas and certificates. Please stay for the party and art show afterwards in the social hall. We are asking for families to provide some refreshments. More details will be sent home soon about signing up. This week, the family asked to provide a snack is Newman on Thursday (4/26). Thanks in advance for your help!

earth dayEarth Day is April 22, so we will be talking about what we can do to help the earth by recycling and picking up litter so that we don’t become “litter bugs”. Our letter focus is “U”, and we will be counting, reviewing numbers, and measuring things that are short and tall. In Bible time, we will read how the apostle Paul’s was helped by his fellow Christians and about his shipwreck on the Island of Malta.

There is a sign-up sheet for the 3 year old preschool parents for our Living Treasures field trip on April 27. We need to have an accurate number as soon as possible, so please let us know if you are coming. The money order or check is due this Friday, April 20. Thank you!

Preschool graduation is just a month away. We invite all of the 3 year old and 4 year old preschool families to join us in the church sanctuary at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, May 18. We will have singing and a presentation of diplomas and certificates. Afterwards, we will have a party and an art show in the social hall. We are looking forward to a fun evening! This week, the families asked to provide a snack are Melius on Wednesday (4/18) and Morse on Thursday (4/19). Thanks in advance for your help!

butterflyThis week we will discuss how plants grow in our gardens and about how caterpillars change into butterflies. Our letter focus is “T”, and we will review colors and shapes. We are also talking about size comparisons like short and tall. This week in Bible time, we will talk about the apostle Paul’s conversion and about Peter’s escape from prison.

Please let us know as soon as possible how many in your family will be attending the field trip to Living Treasures Wild Animal Park on Friday, April 27. All preschoolers must be accompanied by an adult, and the money will be due the week before on April 20. Just a reminder – we are asking for our group to meet at the park at 10:15 (instead of 10:30 as it states in the flyer), so that our smaller group can enter the park ahead of a larger group arriving at 10:30. We would love to see all the families come and enjoy this unique interactive animal experience!

Don’t forget – we will have vision screening for the children on Thursday, April 26. Please return the flyer if you do NOT want to have your child tested. This week, the family asked to provide a snack is Marsh on Thursday (4/12). Thank you!

plant growingWe had a great time at our Easter parties! Thank you for your contributions. I hope everyone had a nice Easter holiday!

This spring, the preschool will be working together with the daycare to look after some plants in the community garden behind our building. We will be reading and talking about insects and spiders this month. We are continuing to learn about the letters “r” and “S”, and about sequencing and patterns. In Bible time, we are reading about the early church and the Apostle Peter.

We have sent home an information flyer about an exciting field trip to Living Treasures Wild Animal Park in New Castle scheduled for Friday, April 27. All preschoolers must be accompanied by an adult, and the money will be due the week before on April 20. The price includes admission, a guided tour, a shelter reserved for lunch time, and animal feed for each person to feed the animals! Easter bunnyOur Easter parties are on March 27 (Tuesday) and March 28 (Wednesday) for the 3 year old class and the 4 year old class. Thank you, parents and guardians, for signing up to bring food and items to our party on Tuesday! We will have a fun time making art, playing games, and singing Easter bunny songs. We will also read the Easter story.

Springtime is here (although it may not look like it outside)! In April we will focus on nature, how plants grow, and how we can take care of the earth. We are going to start growing flowers from seeds! Our letter focus will be “R” and we will keep practicing our numbers this week. Our hope is that we will have a field trip at the end of April – more details will follow.

Sadly, the preschool teachers discovered last week that our classroom hamster has gone missing. We are uncertain what happened to him since his cage was still locked when we returned to the classroom on Monday and there was no trace of him. Since it is nearing summer, we decided it would be best not to get a new pet at this time.

Scholastic Books has a spring flyer and we will be sending home the April flyer soon as well. The new due date for orders is April 20. Please note that the preschool will be closed on March 29 and 30 (Thursday and Friday). The day care will be open on that Thursday but closed on Good Friday. We will resume our schedule on Monday, April 2. Enjoy the Easter holiday!

Mary Had a Little LambTeddy Bear Portraits are back again to capture the sweet smiles of our little ones. They will be here on Tuesday, March 20. The preschool teachers can take the 3 year olds across the hall to get their picture taken since it will be during our morning class. Please consider bringing your child in that day if it is not their regular day. The 4 year old preschool class is having their picture taken in a cap and gown.

We will be reading and singing some favorite nursery rhymes like “Mary Had a Little Lamb” and “Jack and Jill”. We are also continuing to read some really fun farm animal books. The letter “Q” and the number “15” are the main learning focus this week. We will read about how Jesus came to see his disciples after the resurrection and about his ascension into heaven. He is risen!

Our Easter parties are just next week on March 27 (Tuesday) and March 28 (Wednesday) for the 3 year old class and the 4 year old class. Parents/Guardians of our 3 year old class can sign up to provide something for the Tuesday party. The families providing snack this week are Melius on Wednesday, March 21 and Farren on Thursday, March 22. Thanks for your help! We still have donation apples on our tree if you would like to contribute to our classroom needs.

Please note that the preschool will be closed on March 29 and 30 (Thursday and Friday). The day care will be open on that Thursday but closed on Good Friday. We will resume our schedule on Monday, April 2.
