trainWe are very excited about the prospect of a classroom pet! A letter will be coming home explaining more about it.

Trains is the theme of this week, and our letter focus is “J”. We continue to talk about dark and light shades of color. Daniel and Jonah are the focus in Bible time.

Parent/Teacher conferences will be available on January 29 (Monday) and 30 (Tuesday) from 12:00 pm until 3:00 pm each day in 15 minute increments. There will be a sign up sheet by the preschool door starting this Monday (15th). If you are unable to sign up, you can email or call me with the best time for you. Conferences are not mandatory, but it is nice to be able to communicate so that we can help one another.

truckThe kids have enjoyed playing with new toys and puzzles in the preschool room. We have managed to stay warm during this cold weather. We hope you are staying warm at home as well!

This week we will read stories and play games related to cars and trucks. Our letter focus is “I” and the numbers we are practicing are 9 and 10. We continue to review shapes and learn about dark and light shades of green and purple. We are reading about the Old Testament prophets, Jeremiah and Ezekiel, in Bible time.

Please remember to check the local news station websites to see if we are closed in case of snowy weather. If you are uncertain if we will be open, please give the preschool and day care a call. Also, if your little one is feeling sick, please call us to let us know they will not be attending.

The families providing a snack this week are Woodard (Wednesday, 1/10) and Farren (Thursday, 1/11). Thank you for your help!

transportationThank you for coming to see our Christmas play and a visit from Santa Claus. I know I enjoyed watching all of the preschoolers perform and seeing their excitement when Santa came!

Our new month of January and new year brings us to some new themes I think the children are going to enjoy. First, we will be discussing transportation and using our imagination with lots of new toys like train tracks and building roads. We will also be talking about household pets and playing with a new dollhouse with toy pets for the kids to take care of. Our letter focus is H and the number we are practicing is 8. We will be learning about light and dark shades of blue and yellow as well. In Bible, we are reading books about the Psalms.

January 26 is the due date for the Scholastic book orders for this month. A new flyer will be sent home. Keep checking it out so that you can build your child’s library at home and help us build our preschool library at the same time!

Please remember to check the local news station websites to see if we are closed in case of snowy weather. If you are uncertain if we will be open, please give the preschool and day care a call.

NativityWe are very grateful that you are allowing your child to participate in the play on Thursday, the 21st. We understand it is a busy time of year, but we hope that you will join us at 9:30 in the social hall to see the performance.

We’ve had a good time reading about rain and experimenting with water. This week we are doing fun things with snow and ice. We will be reviewing our letters from A to G and also going over our numbers, colors, and shapes. In Bible, we are reading about Queen Esther and the people of Israel in the time of their exile.

Have a blessed holiday and a great time with family and friends! We look forward to returning on Tuesday, January 2, after a nice break.

Christmas_Polar_BearWe have been making Christmas ornaments and reading fun Christmas stories. The kids are getting excited about the upcoming holidays! The preschoolers are also doing well learning their Christmas songs. We are looking forward to the play on Thursday, the 21st. Cookies will be provided at the Christmas party following the play.

Despite illness and closing one day last week, we are making progress with our lessons about the weather, letters, numbers, colors, and shapes. This week our letter focus is G, and the number focus is 7. We practice counting and review shapes and colors daily, and we are making glittery gold and silver crafts. In Bible, we move on to the books of 1 and 2 Kings where we read about David and Solomon who built God’s temple.

The families who are responsible for snacks this week are: Taylor (12/13) and Carrabbia (12/14). Thanks for helping provide a snack for the class!

christmas tree penguinsIt’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in the preschool room! We are looking forward to the Christmas play and party on Thursday, December 21. So far, no one has told us that their child will not be able to participate in the play, so we will go ahead and give each preschooler a role to play and a costume to wear. After the play, we will have a visit from Santa Claus!

This week we are talking about different types of weather and about how the sun keeps the earth warm. We will be reading stories about penguins in the Antarctic. Our letter focus is F, and the number focus is 6. We are practicing counting up to 12 every day. Our Bible lessons this week are about God’s prophet, Elijah.
