It was a pleasure meeting many of you at Orientation last Friday! I hope it was informative. If you were unable to attend, you will still be able to receive the “goody bag” with parent information and prizes for your preschooler.
We can’t wait to get started! This first week our theme is “All About Me”. We will be having circle time, making some crafts, reading stories, and checking out the different centers that contain lots of fun materials and toys. We will start working on fine motor skills like how to hold a pencil and scissors.
For the first week, we do not have any families scheduled to bring a snack. The rotation will begin the week of September 10.
I hope everyone has enjoyed the long weekend and the last bit of summer!
Welcome to Preschool!
What an exciting time of development for your little one! Your preschooler is learning and absorbing so much during their early years, and we cannot wait to get started!
We have many exciting things planned here at Presbyterian Day School. Your child will have an opportunity to play and learn with others during story time and circle time where we study a new theme each month such as the seasons, fire safety, the weather, transportation, and many more. We will be focusing on an animal group each month, as well, learning about sea life, woodland creatures, animals in the arctic, and the like. Every day we will have a Bible time where we learn about Jesus, our Savior, in the stories of the Bible. We will also explore our creative sides with art, music, and dramatic play time when we play at the different centers.
Besides learning about these educational themes, your child will learn to name colors and shapes and to recognize letters and numbers. He or she will learn how to count, add, and subtract using manipulatives, and they will practice fine motor skills by cutting, gluing, coloring, and putting together puzzles. There will be a small group time where the teacher and assistant will teach them some of these skills in a more individualized setting. We will send their work home in their folder each day they are in class so that you can see your child’s progress.
Please send in a backpack (large enough to fit a folder), a change of clothes, and a folder for your child labeled with their name on the outside cover.
Looking forward to getting to know your little one!
Can you believe we are already in the last month of summer! We continue to explore our world this week looking at stories about people and places in Africa. The last 2 weeks of the program we will be talking about Australia and the world’s oceans. On Thursday, August 16, to finish up the fun things we have planned, we will celebrate with a Hawaiian-themed party where we will play games and eat treats.
Preschool will begin on September 4 at the Day School. I will be hanging a donation tree that has apples with items written on them that the preschool will need this fall. If you have any of the items at home or are back-to-school shopping, please consider taking an apple and bringing it back with your donation. We really appreciate the help!
Thanks for being a part of our program this summer! I hope the kids learned a little something and had a fun time in the process. Blessings for this coming school year!
I trust everyone is having a good summer so far. I know I had a fun on vacation these past 2 weeks with my kids. Enjoy every moment with your children. They are truly a blessing! I wanted to thank Ms. Hannah, Ms. Tara, and Ms. Lily for covering for me while I was away.
Our summer program has started off well. We have already explored Antarctica and North America. Stop in the corner room some time to see our “bubble art” project and flags from around the world that the kids decorated last month. This month we are also looking more closely at South America and it’s varying habitats of rain forests and mountains. We will also be looking at Europe and Asia this month. There are art projects, library visits, science demonstrations, and fun crafts planned to explore our world.

Welcome to the Summer Program at PDS for preschoolers and school kids!
We have many fun things planned to do this summer, and I hope we will also learn a little, too, along the way. Our weekly activities will include making crafts and art projects together, playing with bubbles and chalk outside, watching and participating in science experiments, and visiting the library. We will play games and read books, do obstacle courses and relays.
We will be talking about and doing projects related to traveling the world! Each week we will focus on a continent, read stories and watch movies about that area of the world. In the month of June, we will have an introduction to the world and start our travels with Antarctica when we will play with ice to keep us cool this summer. We will begin discussing our own continent by talking about our neighboring countries of Canada and Mexico.
If you have any questions or comments, please let me know. Looking forward to a great summer with our preschool and school kids!
I cannot believe this is the last week of preschool for the 2017-2018 school year! We continue to rehearse for our program this Friday, May 18th. If you cannot make it on Friday evening, please let us know so we can send home all of your child’s final schoolwork. Please remember to drop your preschooler and snack items off in the infant room on the daycare level a little before 7:00 p.m., and parents and guests will then go down the hall to the sanctuary. A jungle party will begin immediately afterwards in the Social Hall at the bottom level. Please sign up to bring a snack or other item if you have not already done so.
We will have artwork from throughout the school year on display. Before you leave the party, please collect your child’s masterpieces in the gift bag with your child’s name on it that we will provide (it also contains a little gift so don’t leave without it!). Let me or Miss Diana know if you want any help collecting the artwork. We are happy to help!
We are still learning in the classroom this week. Our letter focus is (you guessed it!) the letter Z. We are also reading a fun alphabet book, Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, and making our own trees. Our final Armor of God lesson from Ephesians 6 is about the Sword of the Spirit which is the Word of God. The teachers are still testing the kids on their letters and shapes and doing some end of the year evaluations. If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know. I will be happy to talk with you in person or by email.
We are still taking Scholastic Book orders until the last day of preschool. If you still want to order books this month, we will make sure you receive the delivery when it arrives at the school.

**Thank you, Moms, Dads, Grandmas, Grandpas, Aunts, Uncles, and Friends for loving your children and sending them to learn with us. It has been an awesome year! Have a wonderful summer break!!**
This week we will be rehearsing for our program and graduation on Friday, May 18th. Every family is encouraged to join us. You can drop your preschooler off in the infant room on the daycare level a little before 7:00 p.m. and go down the hall to the sanctuary. The teachers will lead the preschoolers in and begin our program. A jungle party will begin immediately afterwards in the Social Hall at the bottom level. A sign-up sheet will be made available if you would like to contribute snacks for the party. We will also have artwork from the school year on display for everyone to enjoy!
I will be evaluating the children throughout these last two weeks and sending home a progress report. The three year old class will review their colors and shapes, and the four year old class will be tested on how well they know their letters. If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know. I will be happy to talk with you in person or by email.
Our letter focus is Y this week. We will review numbers and read about dinosaurs and the jungle. The Armor of God continues to be our Bible theme as we talk about the helmet of salvation and the shield of faith.
Our final Scholastic Books flyers for this school year have been sent home, and there is still time to order. I want to thank the parents who ordered books throughout the year. I hope your family has enjoyed them! We were able to order 14 books in total for our class library this year with the points earned from your purchases. Thanks again!
