January 28, 2019 Parent Letter

ice skating kidsIt was a really good experience for me to meet with many of you last week. I know I came away from those meetings with good ideas about how to help the children get the most out of preschool as they can. Every parent or guardian can always send me an email or text through Remind if you have any questions about your child’s education.

We had fun learning about what animals do in the winter. This week we will talk about fun activities people can do in the snow and ice. We continue to work on number recognition and upper-case letters. Towards the end of the week we will read about Groundhog Day which is this Saturday. In Bible time, we will read about how Jesus chose his 12 disciples.

Our Valentine’s Day parties are on Wednesday, February 13th, for the 4 year old class and Thursday, February 14th, for the 3 year old class. Your child can bring valentines to hand out to their friends if they would like although it is not required. Please remember that there are 12 students total in the 4 year old class and 9 students total in the 3 year old class. We are asking a few families to bring snacks and drinks for the parties.

Snacks and Drinks for the Valentine’s Day Parties:

February 13 – Marsh and Morse (snacks); Quigley (drinks)

snowmanI hope everyone enjoyed the snowfall this weekend. We will talk about building snowmen and other fun things to do in snowy weather. The kids are learning more about the four seasons as well. We are reviewing colors, shapes, letters, and numbers this week. In Bible time, we will start reading in the New Testament about Jesus’ birth and how God preserved him as his parents fled to Egypt.

You can sign up for Parent/Teacher Conferences until the end of this week if you have not already. They will be held on Thursday and Friday afternoon, January 24th and 25th, from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., at 15 minute intervals. There are still a few openings on Thursday if you wish to schedule a conference. Phone conferences are also available. Please text through Remind or email me at JillGarcia613@yahoo.com to set up a phone call.

More Scholastic flyers will be sent home this week. Please have a look at them and consider building your child’s library at home which will give us points so that we can build the preschool library. Thank you!

Puppy in snowI hope everyone enjoyed the holiday season! I am looking forward to starting up again in 2019!

We begin the new year with a winter theme. We will also be reading and doing activities related to pets. In Bible time this week, we begin to read about Daniel and other Israelites as they are taken into captivity in Babylon. We are also nearly through the lower-case alphabet. We will start upper-case letter recognition and letter sounds in the coming weeks.

Reminder about snacks: The preschool will no longer provide the snacks on Monday and Tuesday, and families will not be asked to send a snack for the entire class Wednesday through Friday. Each family will send a snack for only their child each day they will be at preschool. For families who drop off their children at preschool, this means you will deliver to the teachers their snack for the day as well as their folder. For day care families, you can include the snack with their lunch items. We will continue to provide water.

Please note: If there is a special day for your child such as a birthday, and you want to send a treat for the whole class, you are still welcome to do so. We will also have a Valentine’s day party and Easter party where parents will be asked to contribute food or drink for the entire class just as we have done for previous holiday parties. Please let us know if you have questions about snacks.

Parent/Teacher conferences will be held on Thursday and Friday afternoon, January 24th and 25th, from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., at 15 minute intervals. There will be a sign-up sheet on the table by the preschool door. If you are unable to view the sign-up sheet and would like to inform the teachers about what time slot you would like, we can sign you up. Phone conferences are also available. Please text through Remind or email me at JillGarcia613@yahoo.com to set up a phone call.

December 17, 2018 Parent Letter

NativityChristmas play for both preschool classes together is this Friday, December 21st, at 9:15 a.m. (the last preschool day before the Christmas break) in the social hall. The children in both of the 3 year old and 4 year old classes should arrive in the preschool room on Friday at 9:00 a.m. to get on costumes, then parents and friends can make their way down to the Social Hall and be seated. The children have worked hard learning their songs! A reception with cookies from the staff and visit from Santa Claus will take place after the play. You may take your preschooler home afterwards, or you can have them stay with Ms. Lilly and myself in the preschool room until 12:00. We will play games and have fun things to do to celebrate Christmas.

This week we will read Gingerbread Baby and a few other fun Christmas stories. We will also continue learning the letters of the alphabet. Our countdown to Christmas chain is shrinking each day and we will practice counting down. We will read about the first Christmas in Bible Time so the children can learn how Mary and Joseph came to Bethlehem and what happened after Christ’s birth.

Thank you for your snack contributions so far this year! The families providing snacks this week are: Hathaway (Wednesday, 12/19) and Carpenter (Thursday, 12/20). A letter was sent home about necessary changes being made starting in the new year. This will change the way we have done snacks. The preschool will no longer provide the snacks on Monday and Tuesday, and families will not be asked to send a snack for the entire class Wednesday through Friday. Each family will send a snack for only their child each day they will be at preschool with us. For families who drop off their children at preschool, this means you will deliver to the teachers their snack for the day as well as their folder. For day care families, you can include the snack with their lunch items. We will continue to provide water. If there is a special day for your child, such as a birthday, and you want to send a treat for the whole class, you are still welcome to do so. We will also have a Valentine’s day party and Easter party where parents will be asked to contribute food or drink for the entire class just as we have done for previous holiday parties. Please let us know if you have questions about these changes.

I hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday season!!

christmas tree penguinsAs a reminder, the Laughlin Learning Center will be here the mornings of December 11 and 12 to test the children’s speech and hearing.

We have been practicing our songs for the Christmas play which is on Friday, December 21st, at 9:15 a.m. (the last preschool day before the Christmas break) in the social hall. The children in both preschool classes should arrive in the preschool room at 9:00 a.m. to get on costumes. A reception with cookies from the staff and visit from Santa Claus will take place after the play.

This week we will read the classic fairy tales, Jack and the Beanstalk and Little Red Riding Hood, as well as doing some fun activities related to the stories. We have learned about polar animals such as polar bears and will learn more this week about penguins. During the Christmas season, we have fun activities like Santa’s workshop and some crafts set up for the children to celebrate this merry time of year. In Bible time, Elijah’s student, the prophet Elisha, will be our main focus, and we will learn about the good and bad kings of Israel.

We truly appreciate your contributions for snacks each week. The families providing snack this week are: Farley (Wednesday, 12/12); Baker (Thursday, 12/13); and Farren (Friday, 12/14). Thank you!
