christmas tree penguinsAs a reminder, the Laughlin Learning Center will be here the mornings of December 11 and 12 to test the children’s speech and hearing.

We have been practicing our songs for the Christmas play which is on Friday, December 21st, at 9:15 a.m. (the last preschool day before the Christmas break) in the social hall. The children in both preschool classes should arrive in the preschool room at 9:00 a.m. to get on costumes. A reception with cookies from the staff and visit from Santa Claus will take place after the play.

This week we will read the classic fairy tales, Jack and the Beanstalk and Little Red Riding Hood, as well as doing some fun activities related to the stories. We have learned about polar animals such as polar bears and will learn more this week about penguins. During the Christmas season, we have fun activities like Santa’s workshop and some crafts set up for the children to celebrate this merry time of year. In Bible time, Elijah’s student, the prophet Elisha, will be our main focus, and we will learn about the good and bad kings of Israel.

We truly appreciate your contributions for snacks each week. The families providing snack this week are: Farley (Wednesday, 12/12); Baker (Thursday, 12/13); and Farren (Friday, 12/14). Thank you!

trainWe had a good time at our Halloween parties! Thank you for sending in contributions and treats for the children. I hope everyone received the packet about the Sarris Christmas candy fundraiser. The money we raise will go to some much-needed improvements to the day care and preschool. The orders and money are due on Wednesday. November 14th.

November has begun which means we are starting to look ahead to Christmas. We are going to have a Christmas play to celebrate Christ’s birth on Friday, December 21st, at 9:15 a.m. (the last preschool day before the Christmas break). We want to invite the preschool friends and families for both classes to come see the play in the social hall. Afterwards we will have a reception with cookies provided by the staff, and, for the children, we will have a visit from Santa Claus! I will be casting all of the children from the 3 year old and 4 year old classes with a part in the play. If your child will not be able to attend that day, please let us know so that we can make sure they receive their gift from Santa and we do not cast them in a role. Thank you!

We do have another holiday to look forward to before Christmas. We will celebrate Thanksgiving with a class party on November 20th for the 3 year old class and November 21st for the 4 year old class. Again, we will be asking some of the families to provide a snack or drink for our parties. Thank you for your help!

For the month of November, our theme is transportation and travel. We will be talking about cars, buses, and trains this week, and the class on Friday will have some fun activities related to our neighboring country, Mexico. We will also be learning about safari animals this month, such as elephants, giraffes, hippos, and monkeys. Our Bible lessons this week will be about two women of the faith, Ruth and Hannah.

The families scheduled to provide snack this week are: Marsh on Wednesday (11/7), Srikanth on Thursday (11/8), and Morse on Friday (11/9). Thank you in advance for your donations!
